About Louisa the Vet
Hi, I’m Louisa, a small animal vet, Advanced Practitioner in Small Animal Medicine, diagnostic imaging enthusiast, mum, and the human behind “Louisa the Vet.”
I qualified as a vet in 2013 and have worked in small animal general practice ever since. I now direct a busy practice and hold postgraduate certificates in Internal Medicine and Diagnostic Imaging.
Medicine, imaging and ophthalmology are probably the areas I’m most drawn to, but I’ve always been just as passionate about helping other vets get more out of general practice, especially those who don’t have a strong support network around them.
That was a big part of why Louisa the Vet started.
I began sharing real cases, clinical thought processes and the things I was learning in practice to help other vets feel more confident in their own decision-making.
I wanted it to feel useful and relatable, not the perfect textbook version (because I am certainly far from perfect), but what GP actually looks like day to day.
Somewhere along the way, more and more people started following. First vets and students, then pet owners too, and a community grew that I never really planned for, but one I’m incredibly proud of.
Balancing work and life
Louisa the Vet has grown well beyond social media now. We’ve since held our first sold-out in-person CPD event, with more to come, and I want this website to become another place where vets can learn and feel supported.
And because Louisa the Vet has always grown alongside the people who follow it, there’s now a space for pet owners too with clear, reliable information to help make sense of our pet’s health without the overwhelm.
Outside of work, I’m mum to two young children, married to my long-suffering husband, and owned by Finn the dog and Oreo, our three-legged cat who seems completely unaware she’s missing anything.
